Manifesting Alternative Worldviews

Most current design practices are embedded in dominant worldviews. Thereby, design reproduces not just the worldviews but also the linguistic, narrative, structural and material conditions these worldviews imply. Most design practitioners are not very trained in engaging with alternative worldviews and let their design activities be transformed by them. Since most of the complex issues we are confronted with are rooted in a deep mismatch of our relationship with the world this must be a fundamental capability of designers. So it is not just about alternative worldviews, it is also about connecting alternative worldviews with the design of linguistic, narrative, structural and material realities. What if design would commonly enable the manifestation of alternative worldviews? Which conditions are needed to create such design practices?
